Planetwood Studios, LLC handles everything from commissioned pieces for ESPN to producing singles & albums for singer-songwriters. With full drums, live piano, production, composition and in-house engineering capabilities (including audio-post for picture) -- Planetwood Studios, LLC is a one-stop-shop for broadcast-ready music & audio. Niche areas of expertise include audio for picture, Atmos and Stereo music mixing, mastering and all-things singer-songwriter.

CATHARINE WOOD, Owner/Producer and Chief Engineer at Planetwood Studios, LLC holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art from Colorado College. In 2000, she began producing, singing, mixing and writing on projects and, after graduating #1 in her class from Full Sail's Los Angeles Recording School in 2005, added mastering to her professional offering. From 2005-2007 Wood engineered at Play Studios in Santa Monica (national and international commercial campaigns -- including the first iPhone commercial, the Geico "Caveman" campaign, all of the original Apple iPod "Silhouette" commercials, the Priceline "Negotiator" William Shatner campaign, Netflix, and hundreds of other highly visible campaigns -- which included engineering on Voice Over for Keifer Sutherland, William H. Macy, legends like Dick Van Dyke and many more). In Spring of '07 Wood made the full-time shift to freelance engineering, music composition, production and post production.
In 2012 Catharine Wood was invited to join the Los Angeles Recording School's Recording Arts Program Advisory Committee. In 2014 Wood joined The Recording Academy as a GRAMMY® Voting Member in the Producers and Engineers Wing - and in 2019 she was appointed to the Recording Academy's LA Chapter P&E Wing Committee. She is a Voting Member of The Society of Composers & Lyricists, is the former Hollywood Manager and Director of Southern California for the West Coast Songwriters organization and a proud, professional member of AES. In 2016, Catharine Wood was elected to the Board of Directors for the California Copyright Conference. Committed to protecting creators' rights, in 2019 Wood joined the SONA (Songwriters of North America) Steering Committee. In 2019 she was featured in Chapter 4 of "Women In Audio" published by AES/Routledge...alongside Leslie Ann Jones and nearly one hundred notable pioneering female audio engineers in the history of audio recording. And in 2022, she was elected to the Los Angeles Chapter Recording Academy Board of Governors.
In 2024, Catharine was the architect for her new studio build in Southern Colorado. Her company, Planetwood Studios, LLC is still headquartered in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles, CA - but her remote studio is now based out of Southern Colorado. Wood is Dolby Atmos Certified and one of the only women-owned Dolby Atmos studios in Colorado. In 2025, she was re-elected to the Los Angeles Chapter Recording Academy Board of Governors for another two year term. Also in 2025, the album "According to the Moon", on which she is credited as an engineer, was nominated for a 2026 Grammy®.
As a songwriter, early in her career Wood was the recipient of nine (9) Honorable Mentions from the Billboard World Song Contest. She has endorsed Audio-Technica, A-Designs pro audio and SJC Custom Drums. In 2016, "Casualty" by Billy Lawler (Produced, Mixed and Mastered by Catharine Wood), was nominated for an HMMA (Hollywood Music In Media Award) in the Singer-Songwriter Category. In 2020, DJ/Producer GEM was nominated for two HMMAs: “If I’m Honest” (Pop) and “Malibu” (Downbeat/Downtempo), with vocal recording by Catharine Wood. And in 2022, GEM was nominated again with "Inner Bloom" (vocal recording and mastering by Catharine Wood). In 2025 GEM and Cheryl B. Engelhardt's "According to the Moon" album was nominated for a 2026 Grammy (with Catharine credited for engineering on tracks 2 & 5 as well as mastering the first single off the album, "Mountain Meditation").
Wood’s custom composition projects include a commissioned theme song for ESPN's "Viernes de Combates" airing on ESPN Deportes. Her original compositions can be heard on NBC, CBS, BBC, CTV and many more. Wood's specialties include: artist producing, music mastering, Atmos and Stereo mixing, vocal recording, drums recording, audio post production, music composition & production for film+tv.
